Aye Sabz Gumbad Wale Lyrics in English (Roman)
Aye sabz gumbad wale, manzoor dua karna,
Jab waqt-e-naza aaye, deedar ata karna.
Aye noor-e-Khuda aakar aankhon mein sama jaana,
Aye parda-nasheen dil ke parde mein raha karna,
Jab waqt-e-naza aaye, deedar ata karna.
Main qabr andheri mein ghabraaunga jab tanha,
Imdaad meri karne aa jaana zara Aaqa,
Roshan meri turbat ko aye noor-e-Khuda karna,
Jab waqt-e-naza aaye, deedar ata karna.
Mujrim hoon jahaan bhar ka, mehshar mein bharam rakhna,
Ruswa-e-zamana hoon, daaman mein chhupa lena,
Maqbool yeh arz meri lillah zara karna,
Jab waqt-e-naza aaye, deedar ata karna.
Chehre se ziya paayi in chaand sitaaron ne,
Is dar se shifa paayi dukh dard ke maaron ne,
Aata hai unhein Sabir har dukh ki dawa karna,
Jab waqt-e-naza aaye, deedar ata karna.
Mahboob-e-Ilahi se koi na haseen dekha,
Yeh shaan hain unki ke saaya bhi nahin dekha,
Jab waqt-e-naza aaye, deedar ata karna.
English Translation
O you of the Green Dome, accept my prayer; when the hour of death comes, grant me your blessed sight.
O Light of God, come and dwell within my eyes; either call me to your door or come into my dream; O hidden one, abide within the veil of my heart; when the hour of death comes, grant me your sight.
When I am terrified, alone in the dark grave, come a little, my Master, to help me; O Light of God, illuminate my resting place; when the hour of death comes, grant me your sight.
I am a sinner before the whole world – keep my honour on the Day of Gathering; I am disgraced before the age – hide me in your mantle; for God’s sake, accept this humble plea of mine; when the hour of death comes, grant me your sight.
The moon and the stars borrowed their radiance from his face; the grief-stricken and pained found healing at his door; Sabir, he knows how to cure every sorrow; when the hour of death comes, grant me your sight.
None more beautiful than the Beloved of God was ever seen; such is his glory that even his shadow was never seen; Allah willed that the shadow should never be parted from him; when the hour of death comes, grant me your sight.
About This Naat
Aye Sabz Gumbad Wale is one of the most beloved naats in the Urdu language, addressed to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the one of the Green Dome – a reference to the Gumbad-e-Khazra, the green dome above the Prophet’s resting place in Madinah. Verse by verse it pleads for the Prophet’s mercy: to be granted his blessed sight (deedar) at the moment of death, to be helped in the loneliness of the grave, and to be sheltered on the Day of Judgement. The poet signs the naat with the pen name Sabir. It remains among the most widely recited naats at gatherings across the Urdu-speaking world. It is also commonly written and searched as Ae Sabz Gumbad Wale, A Sabz Gumbad Wale, or simply Sabz Gumbad Wale Manzoor Dua Karna.
